An Exterland Landscape Zodiac Exploration
(Workshop and Pilgrimage)
led by

Peter Dawkins

English-German translation will be provided.

Both the Swan and the Dove are emblems of the Holy Spirit, but denoting two different aspects of this Spirit of Love. Besides playing key roles in our own personal lives, they also have a role within nature wherein they act in particular ways in landscape zodiacs.

A landscape zodiac is nature’s manifestation of the archetypal Zodiac or Wheel of Life, and its inner arrangement of focal points and zones of consciousness and activity provide a bible of wisdom teaching. To learn it, we enter into its Mystery and become initiates. Every landscape zodiac has its story or ‘Mystery’. When we enter the Mystery, we enter and take part in the story as “actors on the stage of the world (landscape)”. All such actors are undergoing initiation, of which there are various levels of knowledge, skill and attainment.

In this summer school we will look at and take part in that aspect of the story that is the Swan-Dove Mystery, with visits to the appropriate places in the landscape zodiac. In terms of zodiacal symbols or ‘creatures’, the Swan is represented in the heavens by the constellation Cygnus, whilst the Dove is signified by Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, for which it is the esoteric name and meaning.

The Exterland Zodiac
The Exterland landscape zodiac, 80 km in diameter and centred on the famous Externsteine, the reputed focus of the Germanic folk soul, is one of the most important landscape temples in northern Europe. Of ancient origin, it calls out to be discovered, worked with and enjoyed again today, to help create a new planetary body of light appropriate for the new age now beginning. The Exterland forms the throat chakra of the Heart Line of Europe, the spine of the ‘Swan’ of Europe, and is, therefore, a powerful teaching temple.

Leda and the Swan
Europe is named after the myth of Europa and the Bull, but its counterpart myth is that of Leda and the Swan. In this latter instance, the symbolic incarnatory form of Zeus is a Swan. His love affair with Leda produces the Dioscuri (Gemini), the twins Castor and Pollux. This myth parallels the Hindu one concerning Brahma and Saraswati, wherein the twins are Ham and Sa, who together comprise the Hamsa Swan, the vehicle of the god and goddess.
