Evening Lecture
by
Peter Dawkins

As everyone knows, Shakespeare is an extraordinary worldwide phenomena, reaching into schools, universities, homes, theatres, libraries, publishing, films, television and the media generally – even into businesses and everyday life. The works of Shakespeare have had and continue to have, quite literally, a dramatic effect on cultures worldwide. But why?

There are many answers to this question, but the one that is key to all the rest is rarely perceived, let alone investigated. This concerns the semi-secret philosophical, literary and artistic group led by the multi-talented Sir Francis Bacon, who were dedicated to the ‘love of Wisdom’ and the philanthropic work of raising human consciousness and culture. Together they created a ‘Mystery’, centred on Shakespeare, by means of which Wisdom, concealed under the mask of entertainment, might speak to and enlighten us.

Shakespeare is a genuine Mystery – and an extraordinarily successful one! An even greater Mystery is that of the group and its leader who produced the Shakespeare Mystery. The greater Mysteries reveal greater wisdom than the lesser ones; hence it is certainly in our interests to discover, learn from and enjoy the greater Mystery – even if only to learn how to be successful in our lives in the right ways.

This lecture will introduce this theme, dealing with the life and times of  Shakespeare, questions about the Shakespeare authorship, Francis Bacon’s leading role in all of this, and the Mystery and treasure trail set up for us to follow.

Peter will continue the theme with an afternoon seminar on Saturday July 10th, The Shakespeare Group, and an all-day seminar on Sunday July 11th, ‘Bacon, Shakespeare, and the Mystic Foundations of America as the New Atlantis’.
